The controllable ClariCore™ Handpiece is equipped with an optical fiber and a smart sidekick in the form of a companion console. Together, this system is being developed to literally light the way to a better prostate biopsy, as it uses a technology called spectral analysis that may enable classification of prostate tissue during the biopsy procedure.

Spectral analysis lights the way.

Spectral analysis involves the use of light to “see” into tissue to provide real-time information and could someday provide more timely diagnosis. The ClariCore™ Biopsy System intends to use spectral analysis and a highly predictive algorithm to rapidly distinguish normal versus suspicious tissue.

Tiny light leads to big insights.

While standard prostate biopsy guns contain a plain “dumb” needle, the ClariCore Handpiece’s needle contains an optical fiber. This fiber transmits light of different wavelengths to illuminate the tissue to enable real-time spectral analysis. Spectral analysis, in turn, will be used to determine if the tissue is normal or suspicious.

A wicked smart sidekick.

The light that’s reflected back from the optical fiber in the ClariCore Handpiece is sent back to the companion ClariCore™ Console, where sophisticated software will be used to perform spectral analysis to distinguish normal versus suspicious tissue in real-time. This console also enables the digital recording and storing of critical information gathered during the biopsy procedure.
